Tri-Counties Bank Supports CAA VITA Program

The Community Action Agency Butte County, Inc. (CAA) was pleased to announce that Tri-Counties Bank has contributed $5,000 to help the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program this coming year. VITA provides free income tax preparation assistance to individuals and families with household incomes of $54,000 or less. Tax preparation assistance is provided by volunteers who have been trained and certified by the IRS.

CAA has operated the VITA Program since 2008 and partners with Chico State University’s College of Business, Accounting Department to provide qualified student volunteers who complete the tax returns at no cost. The VITA Program helps those residents who are eligible for Earned Income Tax Credits to receive them. Last year the Program helped over 1,200 residents to complete and file returns. This effort resulted in over $1M in savings to residents and over $1M in refunds all of which benefitted the local economy.
