The day after Thanksgiving everyone goes into a frenzy to score deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. These retail holidays place a huge amount of emphasis on the urgency of need. But what does real need look like? Take a look around our community at those who have been displaced by the Camp Fire.
This year, try to hang on to the grateful spirit of Thanksgiving a little longer. What were you thankful for on Thursday? Probably family, friends, and quality of life. It's unlikely that what you were most thankful for was a thing, like a TV or an Xbox. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving has been deemed Giving Tuesday, and turns the focus away from what you can GET, and instead focuses on what you can GIVE. This year, #GivingTuesday falls on November 27. This global movement aims to transform how people think about, and participate in the giving season.
There is an Urgent Need in Our Community
Every year we talk about the spirit of the holidays and helping others, however the holidays in Butte County are going to be different this year. Due to the devastation caused by the Camp Fire, some 50,000 people may not be able to be home for the holidays and over 10,000 of those have lost their homes altogether.
