Our Plans for 2021

New Year Blog Banner Wow what a year 2020 was! We, as an agency, were put to work in ways we couldn’t have imagined in life before a pandemic. But now that we are here in 2021, we are ready to help you, our North State community, by providing you with tangible resources and supplies when in need.

Looking Ahead with Hope

We are hopeful that this year will be better. For us, hope is non-negotiable. It’s how we operate. Since we are in the business of helping our community members who are experiencing tough times, we are actively supplying hope in forms like boxes of groceries or ensuring that power bills get paid.

Though we are ready to meet the critical needs we know of, we can’t tell the future or know what may happen in the next 12 months. If you would like to help our efforts financially or by volunteering, we welcome your interest and there are many areas to get involved.

Weatherization and LHEAP

In Northern California, we know winter doesn’t really start till the end of December and the true cold weather is here through February. Our Weatherization and Energy and Environmental Services Programs keep homes warm when they need to be. Our LHEAP programs keep the fridge cold without having to sacrifice food or medical needs by assisting with power bill payments.

We have already and will continue to equip homes with batteries for the medically dependent so they will be safe during the Public Safety Power Shutoffs. For all homes who need it and qualify, we will also do repairs and installation to correct energy inefficiencies. Good for families and good for our environment.

North State Food Bank

Our North State Food Bank has been critical in helping our community more than ever. Through incredible volunteers and donors, we are providing nutritious food for those who have felt the economic impacts of the pandemic.

Providing hunger relief with healthy food is one of the simplest ways we can improve the lives of others. Though last year threw some curve balls, we were able to pivot and create drive through events and meet the safety and food security need of our community. With the continued incredible support we received last year, we feel confident in our ability to manage any changes that come in 2021.

Esplanade House

Our Esplanade House mission stayed constant through 2020 even though the application of services changed a bit. Homeless families still have safe and secure housing to help them to learn to take responsibility for the life changes needed to keep them or their children from repeating homelessness at our Esplanade House.

Last year we had to stop many of the in-person activities and improve our internet connection for the children to use for school. Towards the end of last year, we started to reintroduce some services with COVID-19 guidelines in place. Our Esplanade House is a place of great resiliency and growth, so we are very excited for this new year full of opportunity.

VITA SM 2021Last year VITA was a little disrupted by the pandemic and stay at home requirements that followed. We adjusted to keep contact to a minimum. With the changes, we were still able to serve a many members of our community.

In 2021 we will again conduct the VITA program. It will be different to maximize safety. So, keep your documents in order and follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates. If you are interested in volunteering, you can also visit our Facebook page and reach out to us.

If you are unfamiliar with VITA, it is where individuals and families can get helpful free tax return preparation assistance from trained volunteers. It results in refunds to take care of critical expenses or to begin saving for a rainy day. And it’s all coordinated by CAA.

Forward Together

There has been a lot of hurt and hardship in news headlines this past year and we aren’t out of the woods yet. If you have been thinking that you want to get involved and make a positive difference in your community this year, but aren’t sure how, you should consider Butte CAA.

We have varying opportunities for volunteers and we will continue to add positions as we adjust to the needs of the community. If you don’t have the time for volunteering or want to offer financial help, you can do so in a variety of ways. We have options for you to donate to the program that speaks most to you or to the general fund which will go where it is most needed.

New Years are a fresh start for everyone, let’s move forward together and make 2021 the best it can be for our community through service and hope!
