As a branch of the Butte County Community Action Agency, the Esplanade House helps residents break the cycle of chronic homelessness by providing a program designed to nurture them along the path to self-sufficiency. Participants of this program are supported by a strong foundation of resources and guidance as they embrace and commit to extensive life changes. To recognize the hard work and dedication residents have given to their journey, My Salon in Chico empowered two women with much deserved makeovers.

Local salon gives ladies of the Esplanade House well deserved makeovers

Two Esplanade House residents were treated to complimentary makeovers today thanks to a local salon.

My Salon, located on Mangrove Avenue, teamed with the esplanade house and the Community Action Agency of Butte County to donate the makeovers as a way to reward the residents for their hard work with a new look to help them in their journey to a new life.

“It's really important for women to look in the mirror and feel confident, that's a huge thing for women to look in the mirror and see someone they can be proud of. So if they are working in their insides we want to work on their outsides too,” said Sarah Pracna, a stylist at My Salon.

“To have other women pamper us and lift us up, for me it's been awesome, it’s been amazing,” said Dawn Percelle, a resident at the Esplanade House.

The makeover included a new hairstyle, coloring and even a pedicure.

The salon hopes to make this a regular occurrence with the esplanade house in the near future.

Embodying the true spirit of community and giving back, the ladies at My Salon plan to continue working with the Esplanade House to promote pride, self-love, and confidence for participating residents. As a heart-warming collaboration between local businesses and compassionate citizens, this recognition is a fine example of the importance of working together to improve the lives of people in our community. Thank you to My Salon, to the residents for your hard work, and to all those who helped make this rewarding experience possible.
